A large grouping of more than 10 of these fish introduced to the same aquarium make a very impressive display not only for the beauty of the fish but also for their interesting community oriented behavior. This fish is very aggressive, so if keeping a group the tank size should be no less than 75 gallons and should have plenty of rock for the fish to establish territory. They will do well on pellet and flake food, but giving them fresh greens such as spinach for grazing will also help keep them healthy. Adding aquarium salt to an aquarium containing this fish is also helpful, as an aid in disease prevention. Water changes for these fish are best done in small amounts of 10% more frequently, rather than larger water changes less often.
